Facilities and Resources Guide

The campus biological laboratories are housed in seven buildings on campus:

  • Kerckhoff Laboratories of the Biological Sciences
  • Alles Laboratory for Molecular Biology
  • Norman W. Church Laboratory for Chemical Biology
  • Mabel and Arnold Beckman Laboratories of Behavioral Biology
  • Braun Laboratories
  • Beckman Institute
  • Broad Center for the Biological Sciences

Special facilities include rooms for the culturing of mutant types of Drosophila, a monoclonal antibody production facility, a fluorescence-activated cell sorter, scanning and transmission electron microscopes, a confocal microscope facility, a magnetic resonance imaging center, a transgenic mouse facility, a state-of-the-art microchemical facility for sequencing and synthesizing biologically important macromolecules, and a protein expression and purification center.

Following is a partial list of these special facilities and resources:

About 50 miles south of Pasadena, in Corona del Mar, is the William G. Kerckhoff Marine Laboratory, which provides facilities for research in cellular and molecular biology using marine animals, and for collecting and maintaining these animals.
